Keeping your Christmas tree in great shape allows your family to enjoy it all season long. At Ciro & Sons, we've outlined some great tips for you to follow that will keep your tree healthy and happy.
Before you bring the tree into your home and place it in a stand, re-cut the trunk at least 1 inch from the bottom just before putting it in the stand. When trees are cut, sap oozes out and seals the pores. By sawing off the base, you will open up the pores and the tree will be able to absorb water. At Ciro & Sons, we do this for you!
Make sure to keep your Christmas tree away from heat sources like: fireplaces, space heaters, wood stoves, windows (which attract sunlight), and air conditioning vets. Heat cause the tree to speed up evaporation and moisture loss which causes the tree to dry up. In fact, the lower the temperature, the better the tree will do
After making the fresh cut, place the tree in a large capacity stand with warm water. The stand you use should hold at least one gallon of fresh water. There is no need to add sugar or anything else, as there is no proof additives make any difference.
It's very important that you do not allow the water level to drop below the fresh cut or the stem will reseal and be unable to drink. It is not unusual for a tree to drink one gallon of water the first day it is in the stand, so check the water level often — especially at first.
Allow your Christmas tree to sit in water for 2-3 days before decorating. This will provide plenty of time for the tree branches to adjust and form into its natural position.
Right away! We recommend putting in at least one gallon of water once your Christmas tree is stable and standing.
We cannot say whether these extra additives actually help. There is no proof that additives keep a Christmas tre fresh longer. Water only, warm if possible, is what we recommend.
In addition to making a fresh cut, be absolutely certain your Christmas tree isn't near a source of heat. In Florida, if your windows aren't well insulated, then you may want to keep your tree away from windows.
